Stefon Diggs woke up on Monday to find 50 Cent had turned his worst weekend into a punchline. The Patriots wide receiver was still processing a lopsided 29-13 Super Bowl loss to the Seattle Seahawks when the rapper posted a photo of Diggs and Cardi B to Instagram, captioning it: 'Can you imagine waking up this morning and you done lost this b--h and the Super Bowl. I would tell everybody to get away from me, have a drink, and go back to sleep. LOL,' according to Billboard.

The post went viral within hours. It tagged 50 Cent's cognac brand, because of course it did.

Diggs, 32, had a miserable night at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, managing just three catches for 37 yards on three targets as the Seahawks dominated from start to finish, ESPN confirmed. Sam Darnold carved up the Patriots' defence with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. New England's offence barely functioned. Twenty-six of Diggs' 37 yards came on a single reception with under three minutes left and the game already gone.

That was bad enough. What happened off the pitch made it worse.

The Unfollow Heard Around the Internet

Fans clocked it almost immediately after the final whistle. Diggs and Cardi B, 33, had unfollowed each other on Instagram. Both of them. Simultaneously. In celebrity culture, a mutual unfollow on the night of a Super Bowl loss is about as close to a neon breakup sign as two famous people can get without saying it out loud.

Entertainment Tonight went further, citing a source who confirmed the couple had recently split. 'Cardi and Stefon recently broke up, but it's possible they get back together, and this could just be for right now,' the source said. 'She is focused on her upcoming tour and family while figuring out their next steps,' Elle reported.

Neither Diggs nor Cardi has publicly addressed the situation.

The speed of the unravelling is striking. The couple went public at a New York Knicks playoff game in May 2025 and made it Instagram official a month later. Cardi announced her pregnancy on CBS Mornings in September. Their son was born in November. As recently as 2 February, Diggs was asked by reporters whether he planned to propose after winning the Super Bowl. 'It's on the agenda, maybe, right?' he said. 'I gotta get mine first, though,' according to People.

He got neither ring.

'Good Luck' and a Quick Exit

Looking back, signs of trouble were visible before kickoff. At a Fanatics party on 7 February, a reporter asked Cardi for an inspiring message for Diggs. She paused, gave a thin smile, and said two words: 'Good luck.' Then she walked off, Cosmopolitan noted.

Contrast that with her reaction after the AFC Championship on 26 January, when she celebrated on the field shouting, 'We're going to the Super Bowl!' The warmth had evaporated in under a fortnight.

Cardi was at the game on Sunday, but not to watch Diggs play. She appeared onstage during Bad Bunny's halftime show alongside Pedro Pascal and Karol G. Once the set finished, she left the stadium. She posted an Instagram story from her car about Bad Bunny's music. Nothing about Diggs. Nothing about the Patriots.

Reports had already circulated that the couple spent Christmas apart. The US Sun reported Cardi had clashed with other Patriots partners throughout the season, with one source claiming the other wives and girlfriends don't want to be in the same space as her.' Diggs, meanwhile, faces a court date on felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault charges tied to an alleged altercation with his former personal chef in December 2025. He has denied all allegations, Heavy reported. The Patriots released a statement backing him.

A Relationship That Burned Bright and Fast

Cardi and Diggs first sparked dating rumours after being spotted at a Miami hotel on Valentine's Day 2025. Within months, she was dancing on him at Coachella. Within a year, they had a baby, an Instagram-official relationship, a Super Bowl run, and what increasingly looks like a breakup. All packed into twelve months.

Cardi, who shares three children with estranged husband Offset, had given Diggs what appeared to be a clear ultimatum earlier. A source told the Sun she warned him that if another woman came forward with a child after they became official, she was done. Diggs reportedly has six children with six different women, including Cardi.

There was also the matter of Cardi reportedly planning a $1.2 million (£970,000) post-game celebration for Diggs, with 40 guests in a $125,000 (£101,000) luxury suite, the US Sun reported. That party never happened.

After Cardi left the stadium, she posted about the start of her Little Miss Drama Tour on Wednesday. Diggs was still in the locker room answering questions about the loss when the unfollow was spotted.

One fan comment summed up the collective reaction: 'No ring on the finger and no ring on the field.' 50 Cent, as ever, was less delicate about it.

Diggs has said he wants to remain with the Patriots next season. Whether Cardi stays in the picture is another matter entirely. As of Tuesday morning, they still do not follow each other on Instagram.
