Strengthening winds of 105mph reach Cuba today as Hurricane Sandy swept its way across the Caribbean. The hurricane had been upgraded to category two, as vicious winds brought power cuts and coastal flooding across the south-east of the country.

At least 55,000 have been evacuated ahead of expected flooding in the region, according to Cuban officials.

Forecasters predict the storm will sweep across the island in a few hours before reaching the Bahamas.
