On a scorching day on the South Bank, the biggest names in TV turned up the heat as they hit the red carpet at the Royal Festival Hall for a celebration of the best of British television at the 2016 TV Baftas.

Glamour and summer style was the order of the day as the TV personalities we know and love got red carpet ready. And they were happy to share a selfie or two along the way.

Posting a photo on Instagram, Amanda Holden looked picture perfect in a shimmering silver gown with ornate beadwork and a flowing sheer train as she posed by a window.

Gemma Chan couldn't hide her excitement, tweeting from the car en route to the star-studded event. "Beautiful day for the #BAFTATV awards. Can't wait to see my #Humans gang " she wrote. The series is up for Best Drama and the Radio Times Popular Audience Award.

Strictly co-host Tess Daly was a vision in white in a floor-length gown with thigh high split. The 47-year-old arrived without her husband Vernon, who was recently at the centre of anther sex text scandal. But she had her own partner in crime, fellow host Claudia Winkleman by her side.

And like Claudia many of the stars opted for traditional black outfits. Jumpsuits were a popular choice, with TV presenter Laura Whitmore opting for the demure fashion statement and almost clashing with former X factor host Caroline Flack who opted for a similar style.

Alesha Dixon looked sultry in a figure hugging gown slashed to the navel AFP/Getty

Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon channelled the summer sun in a bright yellow dress, with a daring neckline. " I'm so excited for tonight, Can't wait to get in there," she said.

And as at the Baftas, the event saw the nation's favourite soap stars from EastEnders and Coronation Street rubbing shoulders with Hollywood A listers including Justin Timberlake, Josh Hartnett, The Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyer, Anna Kendrick and director Ridley Scott.

But it wasn't just the women who were making head turns on the red carpet. The guest list boasted the presence of the men of the moment. Leading the charge of the boys' brigade was Night Manager star Tom Hiddleston, who will present the award for best actress. The actor endured the sultry temperatures as he took out time to pose for selfies with fans.

Idris Elba, who is nominated in the Leading Actor category for Luther, looked as suave as ever but revealed he was suffering with a bout of laryngitis. "Unfortunately I've lost my voice over the last two days, so if I was to win, I won't have much to say," he explained.

The star attraction, and perhaps an unexpected arrival at the prestigious British TV awards was US singer Justin Timberlake. The Suit and Tie singer donned his best tux and posed on the red carpet with actress Anna Kendrick. The pair were presenting the most coveted award of the night for Best Drama.

Hosted by Graham Norton, this event also celebrates international TV with The Good Wife and Transparent vying for the award for Best International Series. Ellie King and Birdy will perform on the night while Lenny Henry will receive this year's Bafta TV Special Award.

The ceremony is broadcast on BBC One at 8pm.
