The song "Why this Kolaveri Di", which is part of the soundtrack of the South Indian (Tamil) film "3", was released on 16 November. The film itself is expected to release on 30 March.

Meanwhile, the song, which became a wild Internet sensation when it was released, has now crossed 50 million hits, on popular Internet video Web site YouTube.

The song, written and performed by the film's lead actor Dhanush (the son-in-law of Tamil film industry veteran Rajinikanth), while the music was composed by Anirudh Ravichander, created a bit of history when it was first released - it earned more than a million hits on YouTube on the day of its release.

Meanwhile, Dhanush is all set to make his Bollywood debut with "Raanjhnaa".

"For the past six months, I've been looking for an actor to play the lead in Raanjhnaa. My requirement was a man who could look vulnerable on screen. When I saw Dhanush in the Tamil film Aadukalam (for which he won the National award), I liked him immediately. He looks very ordinary and honest, and that was the demand of the character," the director of the movie, Aanand L Rai, was quoted as saying by India Today.

Incidentally, after the success of "Kolaveri Di", Dhanush created a song for Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, on behalf of the "Boost" brand.
