Eddie Alvarez has admitted that he did "something foolish" in his defeat against Conor McGregor at UFC 205 on 12 November. Alvarez was defending his lightweight title against the Irishman, who was the featherweight champion, at Madison Square Garden.

The 32-year-old lost the fight in the second round by knockout and The Notorious went on to create history in New York as he became the first fighter in UFC's history to hold two titles at the same time.

UFC lightweight fighter Kevin Lee claims Alvarez embarrassed the entire division in the manner in which he lost the fight. The America fighter earlier explained that he did not follow his plan, which led to his defeat at the hands of McGregor.

Alvarez has pinpointed the time he went down in the first round was one of the turning points in his loss to the UFC lightweight and featherweight champion.

"I did something really foolish. I don't know if it was after I got hit [in the first round] that I kind of went into fight or flight mode," Alvarez told Sonnen, as quoted by the MMA Fighting.

"But I got hit and I went right and I boxed, I did the opposite of my plan for eight minutes when the whole plan for two months in training was go left and mostly wrestle. ... It might have landed on the back of my head.

"To be honest with you, that first shot, I had no clue what it was. I had no clue, and my butt was on the ground, and I remember in my head going 'what the f*** was that?' I have no clue what the shot that dropped me was but I think it was I threw and he threw at the same time."

"What bugs me about the whole thing is he didn't do anything we didn't prepare for, I have no one to blame but myself for that.

"I've been getting on my [social media] and I'm getting that I threw the fight. People are like 'you threw the fight, you threw the fight.' I literally can understand the people's frustrations with me and them telling me that.

"When I watch the fight personally myself, I'm like, I did everything to lose this fucking fight. I did everything. I couldn't have done worse for myself. I don't know if it was because I got buzzed in the beginning of the fight. I can't really put my finger on it. I fumbled 10 times and you can't win the game fumbling."
