Britain's largest and most famous Bonfire Night festivities are held annually in the town of Lewes, near Brighton in East Sussex.

Six bonfire societies mount separate parades through the market town, staging spectacular fireworks displays.

Plans to burn effigies of outgoing Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond were withdrawn following a storm of protests on social media. However, a giant effigy of Russian President Vladimir Putin was paraded through the town.
