Liverpool are edging towards signing Valencia defender Aly Cissokho in the upcoming transfer window. talkSPORT believes the Spanish outfit are willing to sell the left-back in the summer for £7m and the Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is now keen on bringing the French international to Anfield in the summer.

Cissokho joined Valencia from Ligue 1 club Lyon last summer as a replacement for Jordi Alba, who joined Barcelona in 2012. The 25-year-old has made 34 appearances in all competitions this season and has been an integral part of the La Liga side's back four.

The Reds currently have the services of Jose Enrique in the left-back position and the Spaniard is now rumoured to a transfer target for Southampton. Cissokho had earlier admitted to be unhappy with Valencia after his bit part role in the second half of the season. Since then he has long been linked with a move to Liverpool, with their arch rivals Everton and Tottenham also keen on his services.

"In the second part of the season I don't have as much playing time, unlike the first. Are English clubs my future? I am proud that my name is matched with these clubs but I'm fine here. I just hope to play more," Cissokho said.

Meanwhile, Cissokho had made no secret desire of playing in the Premier League and was flattered to be linked with a move to Liverpool.

"Liverpool? I have never hidden that the Premier League is the league that attracts me the most. It's pleasing to see my name linked to that of the Reds. They're a great club, and not just anyone can wear that shirt. For now, however it is just rumours," former Lyon player added.

The former Swansea manager admitted that Liverpool are looking to bring in new players with winning mentality as the Merseyside club are eyeing for top four finish next season. The club will hand Rodgers £20m to spend in the upcoming transfer window and the Northern Irishman has to choose his targets wisely, especially with the budget given to spend.

Cissokho's £7m asking price fits into Liverpool's transfer policy and the defender has already featured in the European competition. Should Enrique leave in the summer, the French left-back could be an ideal replacement for the Spaniard at Anfield.
