Miss Universe 2015 winner is Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of Philippines Getty

Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach has won the coveted Miss Universe 2015 title beating 79 other contestants at a glittering ceremony held at Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas. She was handed her crown by the reigning Miss Universe 2014, Paulina Vega of Colombia.

The second and third runners-up are Miss USA Olivia Jordan and Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez. The top five finalists at this year's Miss Universe beauty pageant included Miss France Flora Coquerel and Miss Australia Monika Radulovic.

Wurtzbach is the second contestant to wear the Diamonds International Corporation (DIC) crown. It was unveiled last year, and is estimated at $300,000 (£200,140). The crown is encrusted with 311 small polished diamonds that weigh 10.37 karats.

Meanwhile, Miss Universe Thailand Aniporn Chalermburanawong won the National Costume competition. Her costume involved her wearing the cut-out of a "tuk-tuk' on her back.

All the participants from around the world showed off their beauty, talent and intelligence during the contest. The contestants took part in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and personality interview. Miss Universe Great Britain 2015, Narissara Nena France, could not make it to the top 15.

There were performances by Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Seal, Grammy Award-winning sibling trio The Band Perry and Golden Globe and Charlie Puth. The pageant was hosted by Emmy winner Steve Harvey and Rush Hour 2 actress Roselyn Sanchez.
