Edit: It's been confirmed that Maria Sharapova has pulled out of this year's U.S. Open with a shoulder injury.

A year after starting a successful line of candy called "Sugarpova", tennis star Maria Sharapova expanded her brand with a launch of an accessories line on Tuesday (August 20).

The world number three partnered with famed Fifth Avenue boutique Henri Bendel in New York to serve up the new line of jewellery, hair accessories, apparel and cosmetic cases.

Sharapova co-designed the collection alongside a team of accessories designers at Bendel to reflect her fun and fashionable side. The 26-year old Russian is a regular at fashion events when not at WTA tour events.

The grand slam winner recently attracted attention after reports surfaced that she was toying with the idea of officially changing her name to "Sugarpova" for the two weeks of the upcoming US Open to promote her brand. But it has since been confirmed that the tennis star has decided against the temporary moniker.

Instead, Sharapova greeted fans and signed autographs at the opening celebration at the Henri Bendel flagship store, just five days before she's due to hit the US Open tennis courts.

Sharapova will be the third seed at this year's tournament which starts next Monday (August 26).
