Jon Hare, co-founder of Sensible Software and a designer behind seminal sports title Sensible Soccer is looking to crowd-fund a successor called Sociable Soccer for release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2016. The Kickstarter campaign launched this morning (12 November) and is hoping to raise £300,000.

Sociable Soccer will be crafted with the same meticulous attention to detail as the very finest Sensible Software titles, to deliver a peerless gameplay experience across all platforms," reads the project description. "Sociable Soccer will bring fast paced, arcade style football games up to date with online multiplayer mode, customisable player avatars, and clan based online leagues."

Players will be able to create players in their likeness and give them their name, assemble "clans" with other players' created footballers so they may play together under a team name and play with "over 500 national, club and custom teams with over 10,000 researched player names".

On the Kickstarter Hare says: "A community of approximately 20 million fans worldwide have played the football games I have designed. I'm thrilled to return to the genre and look forward to delivering a football game which once again raises the bar.

"For years I have been planning the spiritual successor to Sensible Soccer. Competing with FIFA and PES [Pro Evolution Soccer] requires much more than just a remake, it needs a different take on football games altogether, blending the instant playability of yesteryear with the power of modern technology."

Backers who pledge £12 or more will get early access to the game, while £100 backers get their name listed in the credits, £500 backers will have a quote of theirs included in the game's credits (to be vetoed of course). Right at the top of the rewards, those who pledge £5,000 will fly to Finland with Jon Hare to meet the development team "jump into an ice lake, eat reindeer, drink beer and many other activities."
