The rumours were true. After 10 years of marriage and three children, stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have announced they're divorcing.

"After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time," the couple said in a joint statement to TMZ.

They made the announcement a day after their 10th wedding anniversary.

The celeb couple have agreed to share custody of children Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and 3-year-old Samuel. They plan to work out a financial arrangement and all custody details with a mediator and business managers before divorce papers are filed.

Both are said to be worth millions. Garner, 43, earned a fortune in movies, including the Dallas Buyers Club, and in her starring role in the hyper popular TV hit Alias. Affleck, 42, has both starred in and produced and directed a number of movies.

Affleck's next film, Justice League: Part One, will hit cinemas in 2017.

Affleck and Garner's relationship has reportedly been rocky for months. Friends have said the two have simply tried to ride out difficulties by spending time apart.

"Often, when Ben and Jen have a problem, they just agree to ride it out and be miserable together until they can get some time apart," said a source.

But recently, a witness who saw them at a local farmers market told People magazine: "They looked miserable. They didn't speak the entire time."
