Apple iPhone 17 Pro Launch Date Announced: Surprising Specs, Colors And Price Rumours
Rumoured colours include a new 'Liquid Glass' iridescent finish

Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 17 Pro on Tuesday, 9 September 2025 during its annual launch event in California, marking the latest upgrade in its flagship smartphone series.
Pre-orders are expected to open three days after the event, with the official release date likely to be Friday, 19 September. The device will launch alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, bringing notable changes to design, performance, and pricing.
Launch Timeline and Event Details
Following its long-standing tradition, Apple is planning an early-September keynote for the iPhone 17 line-up. The event will be held in Cupertino and is expected to follow a hybrid format, combining in-person presentations with global live streaming.
According to Forbes, pre-orders will begin three days after the unveiling, which is reportedly on 12 September, giving customers just over a week before devices reach stores and doorsteps.
Line-Up and Design Changes
This year's iPhone family will feature four models: the standard iPhone 17, the slimmer iPhone 17 Air (replacing the Plus), the iPhone 17 Pro, and the high-end iPhone 17 Pro Max.
One of the most significant design shifts for the Pro models is the rumoured move from titanium back to an aluminium–glass unibody. According to Macrumors, the rear will feature a full-width rectangular camera island, a first for an iPhone, along with a glass cutout optimised for MagSafe wireless charging.
Rumoured colours include black, white, grey, dark blue, copper-orange, and a new 'Liquid Glass' finish that produces an iridescent effect under light.
Hardware and Performance Upgrades
At the core of the iPhone 17 Pro will be Apple's new A19 Pro chipset, manufactured using a 3 nm process for improved efficiency and performance. The device is expected to include 12 GB RAM, vapour-chamber cooling for sustained performance, and longer battery life.
Reports also suggest the Pro models may introduce a dedicated Camera Control button, allowing quicker access to advanced photography features.
iPhone 17 Pro Camera Innovations
Apple's focus on imaging technology continues with the iPhone 17 Pro featuring a triple 48 MP camera system covering the main, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses. The telephoto lens is rumoured to offer between 3.5× and 8× optical zoom, enhancing detail for both photography and video.
The front camera may see a jump to 24 MP and could include a mechanical aperture for better low-light performance. Video capabilities are also tipped to expand, with potential support for 8K resolution and dual video capture.
Battery, Charging and Connectivity
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to house a 5,000 mAh battery, the largest ever in an iPhone, while the Pro model will also benefit from improved capacity. Charging upgrades may include 35 W wired charging, faster Qi2 wireless charging at up to 25 W, and reverse wireless charging for accessories.
Connectivity improvements are likely to include Wi-Fi 7 support with Apple's own custom wireless chip. The iPhone 17 Air variant could also debut an Apple-designed modem.
iPhone 17 Pro Price Expectations
Pricing speculation suggests the iPhone 17 Pro will start at around $1,049 in the US and £850 in the UK, while the Pro Max could retail for approximately $1,249 / £1,199.
Jefferies analyst Edison Lee warns of a possible $50 (around £39) increase across the line-up, citing material costs and potential tariff impacts.
