Leaked details surrounding Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max reveal a powerful device with upgraded specifications, a September 2025 release date, and a higher-than-expected price tag. Tech analysts, leakers, and supply chain insiders have shared credible information that outlines what consumers can expect from Apple's next flagship model.

The leaks come as anticipation builds around Apple's autumn keynote.

iPhone 17 Pro Max Release Date and Availability

Apple is expected to officially unveil the iPhone 17 Pro Max during a media event scheduled for either 9 or 10 September 2025. Pre-orders are likely to open shortly after, with global availability beginning around 19 September. This aligns with Apple's historical launch pattern for Pro models.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max will be released alongside three other variants: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air (Slim), and iPhone 17 Pro. Initial shipments will prioritise major markets, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and parts of Europe and Asia.

Full Specs Breakdown

Display and Design

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to feature a 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with ProMotion support (120 Hz). Several reports suggest that Apple might introduce a new anti-reflective and scratch-resistant coating, aimed at improving visibility in direct sunlight.

However, in April 2025, a reliable source told MacRumors that the process for applying the anti-reflective coating to the iPhone display was 'too slow' so, considering the millions of iPhones that the company need to produce, it is not feasible for a 2025 release.

Now, the same publication recently reported that the process has 'improved' so the Apple iphone 17 Pro Max might get it after all.

Physically, the device will feature an aluminium frame and a two-tone rear design combining glass and metal. This shift from titanium aims to enhance weight balance and thermal management. Leaked colour options include black, white/silver, dark blue, and a bold copper-orange variant.

Camera Capabilities

One of the standout upgrades is the camera system. The iPhone 17 Pro Max will reportedly house three 48 MP rear cameras — wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto — with support for up to 8× continuous optical zoom. The front-facing camera is also expected to receive a bump to 24 MP.

Advanced imaging features may include a variable mechanical aperture for better depth-of-field control, and dual video recording to capture footage using both front and rear lenses simultaneously.

Chipset and Performance

The device will be powered by Apple's new A19 Pro chip, built on TSMC's 3 nm N3P process. Paired with 12 GB of RAM, the chipset promises improved speed and energy efficiency. Thermal performance will benefit from a new vapour-chamber cooling system.

Connectivity upgrades include an Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip and support for 5G via Qualcomm modems. These upgrades position the iPhone 17 Pro Max as one of the most powerful smartphones heading into 2026.

Battery and Charging

According to a leak reported by Forbes, the Pro Max variant could include Apple's largest battery to date, estimated at around 5,000 mAh. This upgrade is expected to significantly extend battery life, especially when using high-performance features like AI, ProMotion, and 5G connectivity.

Charging enhancements include faster MagSafe support, compatibility with the Qi 2.2 wireless standard capable of up to 25W charging output, and the potential for reverse wireless charging, which will allow them to wirelessly charge accessories like AirPods or Apple Watch.

Apple is also rumoured to be using new adhesive strips to improve battery replacement accessibility, aligning with EU repairability standards.

Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max Price — What's Behind the Hike?

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to start at approximately $1,249 in the United States, or £1,199 in the United Kingdom, per Tech Advisor. This marks a $50 increase over the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

According Jefferies analyst Edison Lee, the price rise is attributed to factors like increased component costs and international tariff pressures. Apple appears to be positioning the Pro Max as a true flagship with top-tier specifications, justifying the price in the eyes of power users and early adopters.
