The foreign Office has strongly advised British nationals in Benghazi and Tripoli to leave Libya immediately, in response to a specific threat to Westerners.

There was no further comment on the nature of the threat, but the Foreign office said simply, there was new travel advice for Libya

It is believed that the British Embassy in Tripoli had also been in contact with British nationals whose details it had. But no numbers have been released.

This directive from the foreign office follows the outgoing Secretary of State Hilary Clinton speaking yesterday on her role On 11 September, when the US ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans died during an attack on the consulate in Benghazi.

So no doubt this precautionary move will cut the risk of westerners being held hostage or like the Algerian siege and US Embassy attack, being killed.
