It was a week for big names to find themselves under the spotlight - often for the wrong reasons.

Prime Minister David Cameron suffered a humiliating rebuff over plans to join a US-led assault on the regime of Syria's President Bashar al-Assad as a reprisal for a chemical weapon attack on the district of Ghouta, outside Damascus, which left more than 300 people dead.

Veteran entertainer Rolf Harris was charged with child sex assault and indecent images.

Hollywood power couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones confirmed that they were splitting up.

And North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un's former lover was said to have been executed by machinegun firing squad, along with 12 fellow musicians, for making and distributing a porn film.

But there was some good news - for royal watchers and football fans at least.
