Hunter Biden $LAPTOP Token Launch
Hunter Biden has confirmed a 9 September launch for $LAPTOP on Base, with project materials allocating 30% of its supply to prediction markets ABC News/YouTube

Hunter Biden has confirmed that his $LAPTOP token will launch on Coinbase's Base network on 9 September, naming the ticker and date in a post on X.

Project materials say the meme coin will run airdrops for wallets that lost money on Donald Trump's $TRUMP token and reserve 30% of its supply for prediction markets that include a bet on the 2028 US presidential election.

Hunter Biden Confirms $LAPTOP Launch

Biden posted the $LAPTOP ticker and 9 September date on his verified X account alongside a Fox News clip about the laptop he left at a Delaware repair shop in 2019. The post came after The Wall Street Journal reported on the planned token, but Biden did not include tokenomics or a contract address.

The project website now publishes a Base contract, but Biden did not post that address himself. Base is Coinbase's Ethereum layer-2 network, and other LAPTOP tokens are already trading on different networks.

What Is Hunter Biden's $LAPTOP Coin?

The token takes its name from the laptop that became an issue during the 2020 US presidential election. Project materials list a total supply of 1 billion tokens, with 30% allocated to founders and the full supply scheduled to unlock over 36 months.

The project describes LAPTOP as a meme coin created for entertainment and community participation, with no equity, ownership or economic interest in a company or asset. Its website also warns that digital assets are volatile and can fall to zero.

Why Trump Is Part of the Tokenomics

The Trump connection is partly built into the airdrop structure. The Wall Street Journal reported that 20% of the supply was initially planned for two airdrop rounds, including wallets that lost money on Trump's $TRUMP token, Hunter Biden's Substack subscribers and a mailing list maintained by video journalist Andrew Callaghan.

The project website later listed 10% for a day-one airdrop and another 10% for future airdrops. The Journal also reported that founder tokens would be locked for six months and vest over two years, while the later website says the full supply unlocks over 36 months.

The 2028 Election Is One of 30 Prediction Markets

The most distinctive part of the current structure is a 30% allocation tied to 30 real-world predictions covering politics, cryptocurrency and culture.

The project says tokens linked to events that resolve 'yes' are burned, while those tied to 'no' outcomes are donated to charity.

One market asks whether a Democrat will win the 2028 presidential election, while others involve Bitcoin, Trump and whether LAPTOP's fully diluted valuation will exceed that of $TRUMP. The 2028 election is one market within the broader prediction-market allocation.

The burn and charity outcomes are described by the project and should not be read as guaranteed contract behaviour. The published materials do not establish those outcomes as completed on-chain events.

How $LAPTOP's 1 Billion Tokens Are Allocated

The latest project disclosure assigns 30% to founders, 30% to prediction markets, 10% to the day-one airdrop, 10% to future airdrops, 10% to liquidity, 5% to the foundation treasury and 5% to charity. It also says 35% of the supply is unlocked at the token generation event, with full unlocking over 36 months.

That differs from the earlier Wall Street Journal account, which described 20% for airdrops and another 20% for liquidity, exchange listings and legal costs. The later project disclosure provides a different allocation from the structure first reported by the Journal.

Other $LAPTOP Tokens Already Exist

The LAPTOP ticker is already in use across the crypto market ahead of the announced Base launch. The Defiant reported at least 14 distinct LAPTOP tokens across Robinhood Chain, Solana, TON and BNB Chain, while another token using the ticker had been trading on Base since June.

Those assets are not automatically the project Biden announced, and a matching ticker does not establish an official connection. The published project contract and official channels are the relevant identifiers for the announced launch.

Biden has confirmed the $LAPTOP ticker and 9 September launch date. The detailed supply structure comes from The Wall Street Journal's reporting and later project materials, not from his X post.
