The atmosphere at a Minneapolis town hall shifted from political discourse to chaos when Representative Ilhan Omar was targeted with an unknown substance. However, the immediate aftermath has sparked a fierce debate over the legitimacy of the assault.

While the incident sparked concern among Omar's supporters, some critics and observers are now questioning whether the event was a genuine threat or a calculated piece of political theatre. A number were convinced that the disturbing event was just staged.

Social Media Critics Claim Omar Attack Was 'Staged'

Online platforms erupted with scepticism after footage surfaced showing Omar's reaction to the incident. Many users pointed out that the congresswoman appeared unbothered after Anthony Kazmierczak sprayed her with an unidentified chemical.

Omar's calm demeanour raised eyebrows because they expected her to freak out and seek immediate medical attention. Instead, she just asked for a napkin to wipe herself and continued with her speech.

The sight prompted some netizens to speculate that it was just a performance.

'She was way too chill,no immediate freakout, no rushing to wash off, no medical check. She just grabbed a napkin, wiped her shirt called the guy an "agitator,"' one wrote on X (formerly Twitter). 'Like if it was truly unknown protocol would be to pause everything, get her out, hazmat concerns for the room. Staged.'

Another was convinced that the attack was 'big time staged' because the suspect had the 'best seat.' Kazmierczak was seated in the front row, and they believed he was placed there so he could easily complete the job.

Further accusations labelled the event 'complete theatre playing the drama/feel sorry for me card' and described it as 'PR 101.' Critics noted that Omar never left the podium and that her security team failed to follow standard emergency protocols.

Meanwhile, some also defended Omar from the allegations that it was staged. One said, a lot reacted the same way when President Donald Trump was shot at a Pennsylvania rally on 13 July 2024. 'Don't be them,' @FrankMcCallSr wrote, adding, 'If staged, it will one day come to light.'

Trump: 'She Probably Had Herself Sprayed'

The US president did not hesitate to join the chorus of skeptics regarding the Minneapolis events. Donald Trump was asked about the incident in a phone interview with ABC News' Rachel Scott, and he was quick to dismiss the legitimacy of the attack, calling the congresswoman a 'fraud' and suggesting the incident was self-inflicted.

'I think she's a fraud,' Trump said. 'She probably had herself sprayed, knowing her.'

Trump clarified that he hasn't watched the viral footage showing the attack and he has no plans to see it, saying, 'I don't have to bother.'

Trump's comments reflect a long-standing animosity between him and Omar, and his claims have intensified the scrutiny on Omar's public image. He argued that the congresswoman thrives on controversy to distract from her mounting legal and ethical challenges.
