Nancy Guthrie Missing For More Than 10 Days: Proof Of Life Sought As Kidnapper Leaves Trail Of Blood, Disconnects Heart Pacer
The FBI and local authorities are treating the case as a crime scene, offering a reward and urging the public to provide information

More than ten days after Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, investigators say evidence points to a suspected abduction, with no confirmed proof of life received since she was last seen.
Guthrie, 84, is the mother of NBC presenter Savannah Guthrie. She was last seen on the evening of 31 January and was reported missing the following morning after she failed to attend a scheduled church service. Family members raised the alarm when they were unable to contact her and found her home empty.
Police later confirmed that the property showed signs of tampering and possible violence. Authorities have said the circumstances suggest Guthrie did not leave voluntarily, and efforts to locate her have intensified as concern grows over her health and safety.
Timeline Of Her Disappearance
According to investigators, Guthrie was dropped off at her home in the Catalina Foothills area shortly before 10 pm on 31 January. When she did not answer calls the next morning or arrive at church, relatives went to check on her house.
Law enforcement later identified several developments that raised immediate concern. Surveillance footage showed a masked individual disconnecting a doorbell camera late that night. Motion was detected by a second camera minutes later.

Digital records also indicated that Guthrie's pacemaker monitoring application disconnected at approximately 2.28 am. Blood found on the front porch was later confirmed through DNA testing to belong to her, according to Reuters. Investigators say these findings support the view that she was taken from the property against her will.
Officials have noted that Guthrie had limited mobility, relied on daily medication and required ongoing medical monitoring, making an unplanned departure unlikely.
Investigation And Ransom Claims
The Pima County Sheriff's Department, working alongside the FBI, has classified the case as a suspected abduction and is treating the home as a crime scene. Investigators have examined physical evidence, analysed digital data and reviewed surveillance footage from the surrounding area.
Family members have reported receiving ransom messages demanding payment in cryptocurrency. Authorities have not verified the authenticity of the messages and say no proof of life has been provided. Several deadlines referenced in the communications have passed without further confirmed contact.
A reward of up to $50,000 (approximately £37,000) is being offered for information leading to Guthrie's safe return or the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Surveillance Images And Public Appeal
The FBI released still images and video footage showing a masked individual on Guthrie's front porch on the night she disappeared. The person appears to be wearing gloves and holding an unidentified object. Authorities have not confirmed whether a weapon was involved.
On 11 February, the Pima County Sheriff's Department posted on X that a 'subject' had been detained in connection with the investigation during a traffic stop. Authorities did not identify the individual and have not announced any arrests or charges. Officials described the detention as part of ongoing enquiries.
Additional recovered footage, from the same camera - at the same timeline the morning of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. This footage is just before the original video shared, with the individual approaching Nancy Guthrie’s front door.

Family Appeals And Ongoing Uncertainty
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have made repeated public appeals for information and for confirmation that their mother is alive. The family has urged anyone involved to make contact and provide verifiable proof of life.
Law enforcement officials have warned that any images or video claiming to show Guthrie must be carefully authenticated, noting that manipulated material could complicate the investigation.
Sheriff Chris Nanos has said investigators believe Guthrie was taken against her will and that all available leads are being pursued. As the search continues, authorities have asked anyone with information, however small, to come forward.
