Nicki Minaj Fans Start to Register Themselves as Republican, Saying They're 'Never Voting Democrat'
Rapper's Trump Embrace Sparks 'Nicki Minaj Effect' Among Barbz

Screenshots of voter registration forms are flooding TikTok and X. The users posting them? Nicki Minaj fans, proudly declaring they have switched to Republican. Their reason? The rapper stood beside Donald Trump last month and called herself his 'number one fan'.
They are calling it the 'Nicki Minaj Effect'.
Supporters share images of their updated party status with captions swearing they will 'never vote Democrat' again, according to 77 WABC. How many have actually made the switch versus how many are just performing for engagement is anyone's guess.
At the Treasury Department's Trump Accounts Summit on 28 January, the 43-year-old made her position clear. 'The hate or what people have to say, it does not affect me at all,' she told the crowd. 'It actually motivates me to support him more.'
Any Christian who votes democrat again is a fool. They’re showing people that it’s ok to disrupt a church during worship. This is how they truly feel about you. The veil is lifted. No morals. No integrity. It’s not enough for them to have an opinion, they’ve escalated to physical…

What Switching Your Party Registration Actually Does
Here is the thing about party registration in America that tends to get lost in these viral moments: it does not bind you to vote for anyone.
In the 31 states and DC that track party affiliation, the registration mostly just determines which primaries you can vote in, per Ballotpedia. When November rolls around, you vote for whoever you want.
As of June 2025, roughly 44.9 million registered voters identified as Democrats, 38 million as Republicans, and 33.7 million as independents. Whether the 'Nicki Minaj Effect' moves those numbers at all is a separate question entirely.
From Border Separation Critic to MAGA Ally
Minaj was singing a very different tune in 2018. She posted an emotional message criticising Trump's family separation policy at the border, writing that she came to America as an undocumented child and could not 'imagine the horror' of having parents stripped away. That Nicki feels like a different person now.
The shift picked up speed last December at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest conference, where she appeared alongside Erika Kirk, widow of conservative pundit Charlie Kirk. She praised Trump and Vice President JD Vance as 'role models'. Then came the comments about transgender people that sent her LGBTQ+ fanbase into meltdown, CNN reported.
'If you are born a boy, be a boy,' Minaj said. 'Boys will be boys, and there's nothing wrong with that.'
This from a woman who built her brand on alter egos like Roman Zolanski, showed up at Pride events, and guest-starred on RuPaul's Drag Race in 2020. Queer fans have long made up a huge chunk of her most loyal supporters.
The Barbz Are at War With Each Other
The LGBT has also started seeing through the veil & it has them pissed off. Why are they getting the gay vote by default?!?!!! They’ve moved on from the gay vote to flying in ppl to vote for them. No loyalty to ANYONE. The gay community should be able to choose every 4 years like…

Her fanbase is now tearing itself apart. Longtime Barbz are posting tearful videos saying they cannot support her anymore. One viral post slapped an old clip of Minaj celebrating her gay supporters with the caption: 'I miss the old Nicki who actually cared about the LGBTQ community. R.I.P. 1982-2019 Nicki, you would've hated 2025 MAGA Nicki.'
Others are following her lead. A KQED report from October 2024 found 'Barbz for Trump, Barbz for Harris, Barbz who didn't care' outside a San Francisco concert just before the election. The fanbase was never as politically monolithic as people assumed.
A petition to deport Minaj, she was born in Trinidad and Tobago has crossed 120,000 signatures. She went dark on Instagram in October 2025 as the pile-on intensified, People reported.
She Told LGBTQ+ Fans to 'Wake Up'
Minaj is not backing down. On 2 February, she took to X to tell her LGBTQ+ fans to 'wake up' and stop voting Democrat by default. She called them 'demoncrats'. She asked why they were 'getting the gay vote by default'.
The response was brutal. 'Never speak about the gays again,' one user shot back. 'You betrayed them and continue to betray them.'
Will any of this actually shift votes? Posting a screenshot is not the same as showing up at a polling station. But for fans who saw Minaj as someone who genuinely had their backs, watching this unfold has been rough.
