Nicole Curtis, 'Rehab Addict' Host, Reportedly Asked Crew to Delete Clip After Using Racial Slur — Show Cancelled
The long-running HGTV series was pulled from platforms after a leaked video showed the host using a racial slur during filming

In a leaked video, HGTV 'Rehab Addict' host, Nicole Curtis, was caught saying the 'N-word' with a hard 'r' while shooting an episode of her show. The Detroit-born host has immediately realised what she said and asked the crew to 'kill' the footage.
By the time the video had gained so much traction, HGTV swung into action and cancelled the show. Curtis is also facing backlash for saying a racial slur and has since addressed the viral video.
Nicole Curtis Said the 'N-word'
In the viral video circulating online, which was provided exclusively and was first released by Radar Online, the reality TV star is seen struggling to do renovation work. She said, 'Why? It's my last one.'
The 49-year-old host followed it with the racial slur, even saying the hard 'r', 'Oh, fart n*****.' The video shows that Curtis immediately caught herself and tried to save herself, she said, 'What the f*** was that I just said?'
The host knew that she messed up, she's visibly stressed asking the crew to delete the footage, she said, 'Nick, you gotta, you gotta, can you kill that?'
Curtis appeared to be shaken up, adding, 'Oh, f*** my life.'
Radar Online reported that the footage was taken about two years ago and never aired, and the emergence of the tape comes just as Curtis and HGTV were set to premiere new episodes of 'Rehab Addict.'
A source told the outlet that the footage had circulated within the production community. 'When something happens, we all know about it... this footage has made it around to the (production) community she (has) screwed over,' the source said.
Another source added that Curtis deserved the backlash she's getting because of the video, 'You (Nicole Curtis) deserve everything you get. Treat us with dignity and respect, and quit making money off of our backs... You are a trash human,' another source said.
HGTV Cancelled 'Rehab Addict'
The video immediately went viral, which prompted HGTV to cancel Curtis' show and remove the series from streaming platforms HBO Max and Discovery+.
In a statement, HGTV said that they were made aware of offensive racial comments made during the filming of 'Rehab Addict.'
They added, 'Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees – it does not align with the values of HGTV.'
'Accordingly, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms. We remain dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and our workplace,' the network added. The show has been airing on HGTV's prime schedule since 2010.
Nicole Curtis' Statement
Since the backlash and the cancellation, Curtis has addressed the video on her Instagram story. She said that there is more to the story but decided to prioritise her family.
Curtis wrote: 'There is more to this, but my family comes first and I need to be mom right now more than anything else. .. I will take the time to be as I've always been with you, transparent and honest. TMZ called me as I had just turned my phone on after being at school – I said this briefly – but there is more.'
In a separate story, she shared screenshots of a text exchange with a TMZ reporter addressing her use of the racial slur and the show's cancellation.

'Regarding HGTV, I'm grateful for the 15-year journey we've shared. It's been a meaningful chapter, but my focus isn't on my career,' she wrote.
Adding, 'My focus, at this moment, is rightfully on my relationships and my community – the people who truly know my character and where my heart is."
Curtis also apologised directly, stating, 'I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone.
