A quiet school day in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, turned into a nightmare on 10 February 2026. The small community is reeling after a shooting left nine people dead and a 12-year-old girl fighting to survive. 'Now, however, my 12 year old daughter is fighting for her life while they try to repair the damage from a gun shot wound to the head. And one to the neck.'

A Mother's Plea for Prayers

In her emotional statement, Cia expressed a sense of disbelief that such violence could touch their lives. She noted that Maya was 'a lucky one, I suppose', acknowledging the grief of other families who lost loved ones in the same tragedy.

The shock of the event is palpable in her words: 'This doesnt even feel real. I never thought I would be asking for prayers.. but please please, pray for my baby.'

The priority for the family is simply being present for Maya. To help with this, Krysta started a GoFundMe campaign. The goal is to cover living expenses and medical bills so Cia can stay right by her daughter's side without worrying about money.
