Pink Faces Fresh Backlash as 'Stupid Girls' and Her Past Jabs at Female Stars Resurface After Pro-Israel Macklemore Repost

Pink is facing renewed scrutiny after sharing a post criticising Macklemore's pro-Palestinian message during an Ed Sheeran concert, prompting social media users to revisit past controversies involving other female stars.

The singer's intervention has now drawn renewed attention to several controversial moments from her career, including her comments about Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, as well as the message behind her 2006 song Stupid Girls.

Pink's Past Treatment of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera Resurfaces

A new report examining Pink's past disputes with fellow female pop stars has drawn fresh scrutiny against the Just Give Me a Reason singer, with social media users revisiting comments and incidents involving Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

One of the most frequently cited examples concerns Spears, whom Pink publicly described as a 'puppet on a string'. According to a BuzzFeed report citing Rolling Stone, Spears said the remark 'hurt my feelings' because Pink had sent her flowers just a week earlier.

Pink later expressed regret over not supporting Spears more during the period when she faced intense media scrutiny, saying in 2021: 'The media tore her apart, and the paparazzi are scum, and I wish I could have reached out and gave her a hug.'

During a performance in 2023, she also changed the Don't Let Me Get Me lyric from 'damn Britney Spears' to 'sweet Britney Spears'.

Her long-running tension with Aguilera has also resurfaced. The pair worked together on Lady Marmalade, but Pink later discussed her frustration over Aguilera being given some of the song's high notes, while Aguilera also discussed tensions between the pair during the music video shoot.

The dispute escalated further in the early 2000s. During Pink's Try This tour, she used a blow-up doll resembling Aguilera in her stage show, with footage showing her mocking the doll before singing Aguilera's 'Beautiful' to it, according to footage circulating online.

Why Stupid Girls Is Back in the Spotlight

Pink's 2006 hit Stupid Girls has also become central to the renewed criticism. The song and its music video mocked women portrayed as overly concerned with appearance, celebrity culture and sexuality, while presenting Pink as rejecting those stereotypes.

The video included scenes that mocked eating disorders and referenced Paris Hilton's widely publicised sex tape, while its broader message attacked the type of celebrity femininity Pink viewed as superficial. Critics have since argued that the song's message of empowerment came at the expense of other women.

That criticism has extended beyond the song. Pink previously criticised Miley Cyrus after her 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance, calling it 'tacky', and later appeared to criticise Kim Kardashian after she posted a nude photograph on Instagram.

The resurfacing of these moments has given the current controversy an additional dimension, particularly because Pink has long been associated with feminist themes and female empowerment.

Pink Faces Backlash Over Macklemore's 'Free Palestine' Performance

The renewed scrutiny follows Pink sharing a post calling on Sheeran to apologise and offer refunds after Macklemore performed at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on 4 September.

Macklemore wore a keffiyeh, discussed the war in Gaza and repeatedly shouted 'Free Palestine' during his opening set. He also performed Hind's Hall, a song closely associated with his criticism of Israel's military campaign in Gaza.

Pink's decision to share the post sparked a sharp reaction online, with critics questioning why Sheeran should be responsible for Macklemore's political views. Some also argued that concertgoers should not be subjected to political messaging, while others defended Macklemore's right to use his platform.

Pink Appears To Clap Back at Critics on Instagram

Pink subsequently shared a series of Instagram Stories that appeared to address the criticism without directly naming Macklemore, Sheeran or the controversy.

Among the messages she reposted were: 'DON'T LET IDIOTS RUN YOUR DAY IT'S YOUR DAY RUIN IT YOURSELF.'

She also shared, 'BEING LIKED BY EVERYONE IS A CLOWN'S JOB.' Other posts included: 'IM NOT FOR EVERYONE & HONESTLY THAT HAS SAVED ME A LOT OF TIME', and, 'IF THEY WANT TO PAINT YOU AS THE VILLAIN THEN POSE.'

The timing led to speculation that the posts were aimed at her critics, although Pink did not explicitly identify their target. The latest dispute has therefore revived questions about Pink's past conflicts with other women while placing her current political stance under a new level of scrutiny.
