Lil Jon's estranged wife, Nicole Smith, has drawn interest following the passing of their son, Nathan Smith. The Atlanta rapper and producer had kept his marriage to Nicole private for the most part until they separated in 2022.

However, as the tragic news of their only son's passing makes headlines, more are getting interested in the woman who was with the hip-hop artist for over two decades and who raised their 27-year-old son. Despite being very private, Nicole has appeared alongside Lil Jon at various charitable events and in select media appearances over the years.

Decades of Marriage and a Caribbean Wedding

Nicole Smith married Lil Jon in November 2004. They reportedly had a destination wedding at the Wyndham El Conquistador Resort and Golden Door Spa in Fajardo, near San Juan, Puerto Rico. However, the private couple kept the ceremony a secret, with even the bride's identity reportedly kept under wraps at the time.

Nicole walked down the aisle wearing a Monique Lhuillier wedding dress, whilst Lil Jon opted for a white tuxedo. Their wedding happened six years after they welcomed their son, Nathan Smith. They held the reception poolside, with guests including Lil Jon's fellow musicians Snoop Dogg and Usher. Nicole herself is very private, so her whereabouts and profession have remained unknown.

Strict Approach to Parenting

Although not much is known about Nicole, Lil Jon spoke about his wife in some of his interviews. He previously shared that she was more strict when it came to disciplining Nathan. 'His mother is crazier than me so he definitely don't wanna get his mom pissed off,' Lil Jon said whilst laughing when he spoke about his family.

Although a very private person, Nicole appeared alongside Lil Jon and Nathan on an episode of 'Tiny House Nation' Season 4 in 2017. In the episode, she spoke about her husband's routine when working on his music. 'When he's doing music, he needs it loud. He needs to feel like he's in the club,' Nicole said, adding that if they were living in a tiny house, it 'would drive a guest crazy'. However, she showed she was willing to compromise with Lil Jon, telling him, 'teamwork makes the dream work', and even offering him a hug. 'I always want a hug,' the musician said, before embracing his wife.

Amicable Separation

Lil Jon and Nicole Smith had successfully kept their marriage private, and it took two years before the public learned they had already separated in 2022. His representative confirmed in 2024 that their split was 'amicable' and it happened 'nearly two years ago'. Additionally, the representative noted that even if the rapper was a public figure, 'his family matters will remain private'.

Lil Jon brought up his separation from Nicole when he talked about his meditation album, Total Meditation, on 16 February 2024. According to him, he had been practising meditation, but some personal issues forced him to take it to another level. 'I've always kind of meditated a little bit,' he said. 'But when I turned 50, started going through a lot of things. Started going through a divorce, I'm separated now, and all the emotions from the divorce and all that process was really getting to me. So, I found I had to start to go within to calm myself.'

United in Grief

Nicole and Lil Jon have remained united in co-parenting Nathan. This is evident in the Grammy winner's joint Instagram statement addressing their son's passing. Following the discovery of Nathan's body in a Milton pond, the estranged couple expressed how 'devastated' they were by the incident. 'His mother [Nicole Smith] and I are devastated,' the statement read. The exes also thanked the public for their prayers and everyone involved in searching for Nathan.
