Four-time Olympic medallist Rebecca Adlington has expressed her sadness over the drug-doping allegations facing Russia. She said it is very difficult but hopes to get to a point where sport across the board is 100% clean.

"It was such a sad day yesterday, reading all about out it. Obviously it's not my sport personally, but at the same time it's still an Olympic sport and it's still really sad to be able to say 'hold on, something's not right here," Adlington said on 11 November.

"We need to try and make sport 100% clean across the board, no matter what country and no matter what sport. For me as an athlete I've done everything within my power to be 100% clean and I've proved that.

"I think we need to get to that point, and as an athlete I would never think about taking anything, so we need to get that mentality out there to all athletes as well. I'm lucky that in swimming I've never had to deal with that, but as an athlete I don't know how I'd cope with that, thinking 'I've done all my best, but that's probably not good enough."
