In the world of high-stakes Hollywood legal battles, privacy is often the first casualty. While Taylor Swift remains fully focused on her upcoming summer wedding to NFL star Travis Kelce, a trove of unsealed court documents has thrust her directly into the spotlight of a friend's bitter dispute.

The ongoing sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit filed by Blake Lively against her It Ends With Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni, has led to the public release of intimate text exchanges that reveal a startling behind-the-scenes look at the 2024 film's production. Lively is suing for more than £125 million ($160 million) because of claims of a hostile work environment and boundary violations during filming. The legal battle officially began in December 2024.

For Swift, who is currently nesting with family as her fiancé faces a critical March decision regarding his Kansas City Chiefs contract, the exposure of these messages is reportedly an unwelcome intrusion. Despite the headlines, those close to the 36-year-old superstar insist she remains unbothered, viewing the litigation as a drama that 'doesn't involve her'. However, the unsealed communications paint a vivid picture of a friendship that became deeply entwined with professional power plays.

Taylor Swift, Blake Lively and the Script Stand-off

The tension began long before the film's $350 million global success. In April 2023, during a pre-production meeting, Lively allegedly boasted to Baldoni that Swift was one of her 'dragons' — a term she used to describe her inner circle of powerful allies. According to the released texts, Lively sent Swift a copy of the revised script while the singer was on her way to the actress's home for a visit.

Lively's intent was clear: she asked Swift for 'help' in convincing her 'doofus director' to accept her creative suggestions. Swift, always the loyal friend, replied, 'I'll do anything for you!!' and proceeded to praise Lively's version of the script during the meeting.

The aftermath of this 'ambush' saw Lively gushing to the pop star, calling her 'epically heroic' for making up details about lenses to support Lively's stance. 'You are the world's absolute greatest friend ever,' Lively wrote, to which Swift enthusiastically responded that she had 'won the lottery' by being friends with the actress.

Private Texts Expose Strain Between Taylor Swift, Blake Lively

The dynamic appeared to shift as the legal pressure mounted throughout 2024. In April of that year, four months before the movie's release, Lively sent Swift a link to the trailer, which featured a Swift song. The singer's reply was pointedly strategic, suggesting that if Baldoni were clever, he would have blocked her involvement because it gave Lively 'more power over the film'.

By December 2024, as rumours of an on-set feud dominated the press, the cracks in their 'once-inseparable' bond began to show. Lively sent a 'checking in' text, admitting she had been a 'sad sack' who only spoke about her own problems for months. Swift's response was remarkably candid; she noted that Lively was 'not wrong' to feel that way and admitted there had been a 'little bit of a shift' in their friendship.

She even likened Lively's recent messages to a 'mass corporate email sent to 200 employees', stating she simply missed the authentic version of her friend. Swift is said to have called Baldoni a 'bh' and made fun of him for saying he had trauma in public by saying he was playing a 'tiny violin' in response to what he said. People saw these conversations on Jan. 20, 2026.

Baldoni's lawyers say that these messages prove that Lively used her famous endorsements to change how the movie was made and how people saw it. In New York, the trial for Lively's case will begin on May 18, 2026. Swift's lawyers have always said that she had nothing to do with the case. A judge had already turned down a request for her deposition, but the unsealed documents make sure that everyone knows what she did in the drama.

Judge Lewis J. Liman has already thrown out Baldoni's own £312 million ($400 million) countersuit against Lively and Ryan Reynolds for defamation and extortion as of June 2025.
