Tottenham won their first league match in seven weeks and put the pressure back on Arsenal, with a 3-1 victory over Swansea at White Hart Lane, thanks to two late headers from former Gunner Emmanuel Adebayor.

Rafael van der Vaart converted a brilliant sprint from Gareth Bale down the left to open the scoring in the 20th minute but Swansea hit back around the hour mark with a delightful half-volley by the impressive Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The hosts restored their lead when Adebayor headed home from a van der Vaart corner in the 73rd minute. With four minutes to go, the Togolese forward once again rose above the opposition defence, to nod an Aaron Lennon cross past Michel Vorm to seal the match and give Spurs all three points.

With the victory, Tottenham maintain their five-point lead over Chelsea and Newcastle United and go level on points with third-placed Arsenal, who lost to QPR on Saturday. It rounded off a successful week for Harry Redknapp's side after Tuesday's 3-1 FA Cup quarter-final over Bolton.
