WATCH: Triangular UFO Spotted Over Area 51 - Social Media Erupts with Alien Theories

The internet is going bananas over a Dorito-shaped unidentified flying object seen hovering over the infamous Area 51. There are few locations on Earth more linked with mystery, secrecy and rumours of extraterrestrial life than Area 51, the remote United States Air Force facility deep in the Nevada desert.

For years, fans of the unexplained have fixated on this classified site, convinced it conceals evidence of alien spacecraft, advanced technologies and extraterrestrial experiments. Now, newly shared infrared footage has put Area 51 back into the people's sights, starting debates across social media and UFO forums.

The viral thermal video appears to show a sharply undefined triangular-shaped aircraft flying through the night skies above the infamous base's airspace. This sighting was captured on 14 January by videographer Anders Otteson, who operates the YouTube channel Uncanny Expeditions, and it has got people trying to uncover its origins, with the posts receiving half a million views as of this writing.

Area 51 and the UFO Lore

In case you were unaware, Area 51 has been foundational to UFO culture and conspiracy theories since the mid-twentieth century. Officially part of the vast Nevada Test and Training Range, it serves as a highly classified US military installation with a long history of experimental aircraft testing.

Moreover, its official purpose has always been shrouded by secrecy, contributing to theories that go much beyond terrestrial aviation projects. Many believe the base stores and reverse-engineers crashed alien spacecraft, possibly retrieved at Roswell in 1947, and conducts joint operations with extraterrestrial beings, although these claims lack official verification or any real proof.

Furthermore, the absence of public information, combined with years of spy plane tests and secretive flight trials, has created Area 51's mystique. From the U-2 spy plane to the SR-71 Blackbird and F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighters, the site has been linked to many of America's most advanced aircraft long before official announcements.

Not too long ago, satellite maps revealed a triangular structure on the base grounds that many users labelled 'alien technology,' further feeding the aura that Area 51 has more to it than meets the eye. Images of this pyramid-like formation triggered rumours surrounding everything from secret energy transmitters to hidden portals to other dimensions.

The Triangular UFO Over Area 51

Now, on the early morning of 14 January, while camped near Groom Lake Road on the fringes of Area 51, explorer and videographer Anders Otteson set up thermal imaging equipment to monitor nocturnal flight activity as per reports. During what appeared to be a routine observation, Otteson recorded infrared footage of a highly defined triangular aircraft.

The object stood out clearly in the thermal spectrum and got immediate attention due to its pronounced geometric shape and lack of conventional visual cues, such as navigation lights, usually seen on known aircraft. Here is the video:

Moreover, this specific sighting was captured with high-resolution thermal imaging gear and shared across social media, going viral almost immediately. The object bore a noticeable contrast against the night sky and moved in a way that many viewers described as unlike standard military jets. Some people on X compared the shape to a Dorito chip, a term now frequently used to describe such triangular sightings.

Importantly, the footage also implied the presence of a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber in the area, a known military aircraft often associated with secret tests and exercises. However, some who have reviewed the video suggest that the newly sighted object did not match the known size or thermal profile of the B-2, saying instead it could be an unknown platform undergoing evaluation or testing.

Furthermore, others have drawn a connection between this event and earlier sightings of triangular craft reported in the United States, such as on separate occasions over Wichita, Kansas, in 2014. Although there is no official confirmation of what the object might be, some believe it could be part of a classified US military programme or an advanced prototype that has yet to be publicly acknowledged.
