10 people have been arrested by police in France on suspicion of being Islamic militants.

The crackdown comes after Mohammed Merah's killing spree which rocked the country. President Nicola Sarkozy immediately vowed to smoke others like him out and put a stop to Muslim extremism in the country.

Most of this morning's dawn raids by French Intelligence services & elite commandos were carried out in the south and south-west, in Marseille, Carpentras, Valence and Pau. There was also a raid in Roubaix, close to the Belgian border.

The arrests are hot off the heels of charges being pressed 13 other suspected militants yesterday. They're accused of being linked to a terrorist network. That carries a maximum 10 year jail term.
