Two devastating bomb attacks have happened in Afghanistan in the past twenty four hours. The first happened as ten young girls were killed in eastern Afghanistan as they accidentally struck a landmine with an axe while collecting firewood according to a spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar province. It is unclear whether the landmine was planted by insurgents or was left over from Afghanistan's many decades of conflict, but these unexploded mines are still commonly found in rural areas.

Meanwhile the Taliban have claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing in Kabul that killed two Afghan civilians and injured dozens more saying its target was a U.S. contracting company. This Police spokesman explained what happened.

"A car bomb hit the wall of a foreign construction company. The construction company's name is Contrack. Our investigation team is investigating the incident in the area."
