Part of the black box recorder has been discovered from the Russian plane that crashed in Indonesia last week, killing over 40 people.

The black box appeared charred from the crash but officials could not say yet whether it had suffered any damage. Within the box are two important parts, the CVR (Cockpit Voice Recorder) and FDR (Flight Data Recorder). So far only the former has been found.

The head of the National Search and Rescue Agency said:

"I asked the controllers in the field and all rescuers, especially the teams from the military and police, to continue searching for the Flight Data Recorder and also to continue the evacuation process."

Efforts by Indonesian and Russian rescue teams to find the rest of the black box are being hampered by the densely forested mountain in which the disaster occurred. For now, it is hoped that the voice recorder will provide some clue as to how the plane crashed.
