A man has been shot dead at the home of the Swedish Prime Minister Fredrick Reinfeldt, according to police.

Believed to be the bodyguard of Mr Reinfeldt, the unnamed man was discovered by a colleague after he returned from his lunch break at around 12:00 UK time. Emergency services were then called to the Sager Palace in Stockholm.

A Police spokesman said that there were no signs of a crime, and that they were investigating the death as either suicide or a work-related accident.

The Prime Minister himself was not at the residence at the time of the shooting, with police saying both him and his family are safe and well.

Forensic scientists are now investigating the scene.
