Eric Dane Children: Who Are the Daughters He Shielded from Hollywood?
Eric Dane's life was defined by his dedication to his daughters, Billie and Georgia, beyond his acting career.

The world may remember Eric Dane for his commanding screen presence, but his greatest devotion was always to his family. Following his recent passing, many are looking back at the quiet, grounded life he built for his girls away from the fame of Grey's Anatomy. He leaves behind a legacy defined not just by his craft but by his fierce dedication to protecting his two daughters.
While Dane earned fame through his television work, those in his inner circle frequently noted that parenthood was his true priority. The former Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria star had two daughters with wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and they always stayed at the heart of his world.
The Dane Sisters: Billie and Georgia
The actor was a father to two girls:
- Billie Beatrice Dane – born 3 March 2010
- Georgia Geraldine Dane – born 28 December 2011
The siblings were raised mostly out of the public view, regardless of their parents' celebrity status. Both Dane and Gayheart were committed to ensuring their children enjoyed a steady and private childhood.
Welcoming Billie: A Long-Awaited Arrival
The couple's first daughter, Billie Beatrice, arrived on 3 March 2010. News that they were starting a family broke in September 2009 after Gayheart was spotted with a baby bump. At the time, an insider told PEOPLE that the pregnancy brought them immense joy, noting that they had been trying to conceive for a long while.
Just a month before his daughter's arrival in February 2010, Dane discussed his delivery room preparations with Ellen DeGeneres. 'I'll be in the room,' he noted. 'I'm going to stay close to my wife and make sure that she is all right. I'm really excited. I'm also very interested.'
During the chat, he joked that the name they had picked out sat 'straight down the middle' of the spectrum between unconventional and classic.
A Namesake and a Rising Talent
Not long after Billie arrived, her name was made public, and Dane later detailed the reasoning behind the choice during a 2016 appearance on Harry Connick Jr.'s talk show. [Billie's] named after my father ... Whether it was a boy or a girl, the firstborn was gonna be a Billie,' he explained.
Now in her teens, Billie has pursued interests in both dancing and modelling. Gayheart celebrated her daughter's talents in December 2021 by posting a photo of her clutching a bouquet on Instagram Stories, adding the caption: 'Congratulations Billie on a BEAUTIFUL dance showcase today #proudmom.'
Billie has occasionally joined her parents at high-profile events, such as when she accompanied her mother to the Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in Brentwood, California, in 2022. Two years later, she was by her father's side for the premiere of Bad Boys: Ride or Die to celebrate his role in the film.
When she finished middle school in June 2024, her mum shared the milestone with a lovely Instagram post.
Georgia Geraldine: Completing the Family
Dane and Gayheart's second child, Georgia Geraldine, was born on 28 December 2011. 'Rebecca Gayheart and husband Eric Dane welcomed Georgia Geraldine Dane on Dec. 28, just in time for the New Year!' the actress's representative informed PEOPLE. 'Both mom and baby girl are happy and healthy, Billie is thrilled to be a big sister, and dad is getting ready to live in a house full of ladies!'
At the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdown, Gayheart gave fans a peek into her daughter's positive attitude. 'She is the only one in the family who is thriving and not just surviving,' the actress posted on Instagram in April 2020. 'She loves being home and finds the joy in most everything she does. I'm so thankful for this kid 🥳💙.'
Humour and Heart Amid Health Battles
During an August 2024 chat with Variety, Dane recalled a blunt question Georgia asked after she began watching his work on Grey's Anatomy. 'My 12-year-old, when she started watching it a couple of years ago looked at me and said, 'Dad, where did your abs go?' She was serious. She wasn't making a joke,' he shared.
In a November 2025 appearance on the Broad Ideas podcast, Gayheart discussed how the family was coping with Dane's neurodegenerative condition. As his ALS advanced, the actress explained to her children 'we show up for people no matter what.'
'He is our family. He is your father. We show up, and we try to do it with some dignity and some grace and just get through it,' Gayheart recalled telling her daughters.
Shielded from the Limelight
Dane and Gayheart opted to keep their daughters out of the limelight. They made a point of keeping photos off social media and only occasionally took the girls to industry functions, so they could have an ordinary childhood.
Those close to the family noted that Dane was an incredibly dedicated father who often tailored his filming commitments to fit around school activities and family holidays. He often remarked that being a parent was the one thing that truly kept him grounded.
A Legacy of Unconditional Love
'I never had a family, and now I do. I know I'm a very lucky guy,' Dane told PEOPLE of his daughters. Although he and Gayheart parted ways in 2018, with the actress citing irreconcilable differences when she filed to end their marriage that year, the pair remained dedicated to raising their children together. This amicable arrangement lasted seven years until Gayheart moved to dismiss the legal split in March 2025.
'I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,' Dane told PEOPLE in a statement that shared his ALS diagnosis just a month later. On 19 February 2026, Dane passed away. His family released a statement to PEOPLE saying that his final moments were spent with close friends, his loyal wife, and his two daughters, Billie and Georgia, who meant everything to him.
