Hameed to become just the second teenager to play Test cricket for England since 1949 Getty

Haseed Hameed will make his England debut on Wednesday (9 November) on the opening day of the first Test against India.

The 19-year-old Lancashire opener received his maiden Test call-up for the tour of Bangladesh last month as one of three uncapped players named in the squad, but failed to make an appearance during the series draw.

But Hameed will now open alongside skipper Alastair Cook in Rajkot. Ben Duckett, who opened alongside Cook in Bangladesh, will bat at number four with Gary Ballance dropping out after registering just 24 runs.

"We have all been hugely impressed with the way Haseeb has gone about his business on this tour. Nothing seems to faze him," Cook said, BBC Sport reports.

Hameed enjoyed a superb debut campaign with Lancashire, where he has struck 1,129 runs in this season's County Championship. He will become just the second teenager to play Test cricket for England since 1949, the first since Ben Hollioake in 1997.
