An overzealous Lady Gaga fan was left stunned after the star's burly bodyguards slammed him to the floor when he attempted to get an autograph.

The 26-year-old pop star was walking through a hotel lobby in Bucharest, Romania when the unsuspecting autograph hunter ran towards her carrying an autograph book and pen.

In a 30-second clip, which has emerged online, the man is manhandled and pinned to the ground as the startled singer watches the scene play out in front of her.

She does nothing to stop the melee and after regaining her composure, she makes her way through the exit of the hotel to meet other fans.

The fan is forced to lie on the ground until the Bad Romance hitmaker has exited the building.

It was not the first time Gaga's trip to southeast Europe made headlines.

The singer's decision to wear fur on occasions during her stay in Bulgaria angered animal rights group, Peta.

She responded that she has the right to do, and wear, what she wants.

"I do not, however, support violent, abusive, and childish campaigns for any cause, particularly one that I respect - animal rights," she wrote.

"You see a carcass, I see a museum pièce de résistance. I am truly sorry to fans who are upset by this - it's a fair and applaudable feeling about the health and safety of animals. I respect your views. Please respect mine."
