The FTSE 100 finished on 7,089.77 Reuters

The FTSE 100 continued its recent strong performance on 10 April, rising by 1.06% to finish the day on 7,089.77 – a record high and beating the record 7,037.67 that it experienced in March.

Majestic Wine endured a turbulent day after it announced it had bought online rival Naked Wines in a £70m deal. Majestic shares fell 6% in early trading after it revealed weak trading figures in March and disclosed that they would not be paying dividends for a couple of years but it bounced back over the course of the day, with shares eventually settling 1.73% higher than the previous day at 323.25.

Shire was the biggest riser over the course of the day as the biopharmaceutical company saw its shares jump by 4.8% to finish on 5.680.00.

On the other hand, Kingfisher saw the value of its shares drop by 0.84% to 364.00 – making it the day's biggest loser.

Connor Campbell, an analyst at Spreadex, said in his blog: "The UK index was supported not only by the sustained growth in property sector stocks like Zoopla and Countrywide and the continual thrust of Shire, but the renewed gains of Brent Crude leading the oil sector higher."
