Marvel's Wolverine fans who are looking forward to a major PlayStation State of Play update are up for disappointment as Insomniac Games just dropped a bomb confirming there are no new details until Spring of 2026.

The developer of the PlayStation 5-exclusive action game simply replied to a post on X (formerly Twitter) with, 'Spring 2026' when asked when new information will be available on the game's release. Speculations that Marvel's Wolverine will not be in the lineup to be announced during the State of Play, which is scheduled on 12 February and not in spring.

Livestream of Sony's annual event, the State of Play, will broadcast for over an hour, offering game-play updates and PlayStation Studios announcements. Third-party developers on the PlayStation 5 will also be gracing the stage. Viewers can watch the broadcast on YouTube and Twitch. It is expected to be one of the longest showcases from Sony.

PlayStation Blog announced the event on their official news platform, stating, 'February's State of Play will spotlight eye-catching third-party and indie games headed to PS5, along with the latest from teams at PlayStation Studios.' The broadcast will be in English and will have Japanese subtitles.

Why This Matters

As the possibility of Logan making his appearance during tomorrow's State of Play event is ruled out, fans may be left disappointed, being one of this year's most anticipated games. The gaming community is now faced with anticipation and frustration, with no confirmed details on whether or not Marvel's Wolverine will be announced tomorrow.

While a long wait until Spring may be disappointing for fans of the game, it may indicate how Insomniac prefers a more impactful reveal over a brief teaser at the showcase set to take place this month. Reports say Marvel's Wolverine will still be launching later this year, during Sony's next fiscal year, April 2026 through March 2027.

Fresh Insights

Just last week, Insomniac Games may have implied that Daredevil will be making a cameo in Marvel's Wolverine in an Instagram post captioned, '"Claws"? What's that, some kind of fancy lawyer lingo? #WolverinePS5.'

In a PlayStation Universe report, no new updates on Daredevil's appearance have been confirmed as of writing. Fans are speculating, however, that Insomniac Games wouldn't have implied such an idea had it not been relevant.

PSU revealed that actor Liam McIntyre is set to play the role of James 'Logan' Howlett in the game. Last year, the actor took to X to express his gratitude to fans for their support.

Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games was announced in 2021. The game was since shrouded in relative silence until September of 2025 when its game-play trailer was released by Sony during its State of Play event. It was made available in the PS Store, but only to add to Wishlists, the following month. The launch was set for Fall 2026. This strategy fed both excitement and frustration in the gaming community, which made them eagerly anticipate the game's release.

September's trailer showed Wolverine tearing through enemies using his iconic adamantium claws, leaving blood, gore, and severed limbs. Fans are anticipating how Logan's powers will be captured in the game-play.

With Wolverine's 2026 scheduled release, Gamespot notes that Sony's apprehension about launching GTA 6 would be understandable, given the potential clash for attention and media coverage. The report notes that there are at least other titles dropping to PS5 this year that fans can look forward to, such as Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls from Arc System Works, and Housemarque's action game, Saros.
