Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban Locked in 'Tense Standoff' Over Beloved Nashville Home Following Split
Custody and career ties keep the exes in the same orbit

In Tennessee's rolling hills, a quiet storm is brewing between two of Australia's most famous exports. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were the golden couple of Music City for almost twenty years. They combined Hollywood glamour with country music roots in a way that felt very permanent. However, following their divorce announcement last autumn, the shared domestic bliss of their Franklin suburb has transformed into a strategic 'tense standoff' that neither seems willing to lose.
The roots of this territorial battle are deep. Kidman and Urban, both 58, officially separated in the summer of 2025 after 19 years of marriage. Following Kidman's initial filing on Sept. 30, 2025, a Tennessee judge officially signed off on the final divorce decree on Jan. 6, 2026.
While Urban has relocated to temporary local accommodation, the Oscar-winning actress remains firmly ensconced in the family's gated-community mansion. It is a high-stakes game of geographical chess in a city that serves as the professional and personal anchor for both stars.

The Nashville Standoff
For Kidman, staying in Nashville is about more than just a postcode; it is about providing a 'source of stability' for their daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith, 14. While Urban established his career in Nashville years before their 2006 wedding, Kidman has made the city her own, raising their children there and integrating into the local fabric.
It makes things even harder for them that they are legally separated. Urban signed a custody agreement in January 2026 that said Kidman would have primary residential custody for 306 days of the year. Urban, on the other hand, gets to see his kids every other weekend, which adds up to 59 days a year, including Thanksgiving. This arrangement effectively ties Urban to the area if he wants to keep the frequent, friendly contact the couple has promised to keep for their kids.
Adding to the tension are the 'ordinary' run-ins. Locals report seeing the pair separately at the same haunts, maintaining the routines they established as a couple. 'Neither of them has stepped away from Nashville in any meaningful sense,' a local source noted, adding that even practical services and school arrangements remain shared. For both, the city represents the foundation of their lives, and neither is prepared to abandon it.

Professional Ties and New Chapters for Kidman and Urban
Beyond family, professional obligations are pinning Kidman to Tennessee. Although Kidman portrayed the iconic Dr. Kay Scarpetta during local filming that took place from October 2024 to March 2025, she remains rooted in the city for the project's launch. The first season of Scarpetta, based on Patricia Cornwell's novels and featuring Jamie Lee Curtis as the title character's sister, is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on 11 March 2026.
Meanwhile, Urban has been navigating his own new reality on his High And Alive World Tour, which concluded at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena in October 2025. Fans noticed he stopped mentioning Kidman on stage, though he made light of the situation during that final tour stop when a fan revealed her name was 'Nicole'. Urban hilariously reacted by dramatically falling backward onto the stage and lying flat for several moments while the audience erupted in laughter.
Speculation has inevitably turned to Urban's personal life, with rumours linking him to 25-year-old musician Maggie Baugh. However, mutual friend Alexandra Kay has vehemently rejected these claims, stating, 'I know that's absolutely not true... I've met [Maggie's] boyfriend.' Urban was also linked to 26-year-old tour opener Karley Scott Collins, though Collins herself publicly shut down the rumours on Jan. 27, 2026, reposting a headline on Instagram with the caption: 'Y'all, this is absolutely RIDICULOUS and untrue.'
Despite the whispers, the core conflict remains geographical. As their divorce was finalised in early 2026, the 'irreconcilable differences' cited in court documents have manifested as a stubborn refusal to leave the city they both call home. Whether this proximity will lead to a peaceful co-parenting era or continued friction remains to be seen.
