Luciana Pedraza's Tribute
'Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort,' said Pedraza in the statement.
'To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller,' the statement continued. 'To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court.'
'For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind.'
Their Love Story
Duvall and Pedraza first met in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Oscar-winning actor recalled in separate interviews in 2003 and 2010 that they crossed paths for the first time at a bakery in Argentina. Duvall shared that Pedraza was the one who approached him, whilst Pedraza recalled that at the time she did not know who he was when she met him, but eventually came to appreciate that fact as it allowed them to form a genuine connection.
'I didn't want to, but my friends said, "Go invite him to our party. He loves the tango." So we walked around the block and talked,' Padreza recalled. 'I said, "Mr. Duvall, here's my card. If you wanna come to this party, my friends would love to have you," with no expectations, and he came.'
'He thinks I'm lying, but I swear to god,' said Padreza, referring to her not knowing who he was when they first met. 'He was Bobby. And still, to me, he is just Bobby. And then I saw him working on "The Apostle," and saw some of his other films and I was able to admire his work.'
They eventually started dating in 1996 and married after almost 10 years together, in 2005. The pair would often be seen attending red carpet events together, with Duvall often talking about how much Pedraza meant to him. Duvall referred to her as one of the best things in his life in a 2021 interview.
'I don't know if I love any of it, but day to day with my wonderful wife,' said Duvall, in response to a question by People at the time about what he loved about turning 90 years old. 'She takes care of me.'
