Welcome to the wife carrying championships, where couples race with a partner on their back in pursuit of pride, honour and booze.

A barrel of ale goes to the winning side.

To compete, all you need are two people that are absolutely crackers.

This year's winners were Tom & Kirsty Wilmot.

They admit that their training regime attracted attention.

"Well, I have to say the neighbours were a little bit concerned because we were going up and down our road for a few nights last week. So...at least now, when social services turn up at the door next week we will be able to explain."

The unusual sport is in its fifth year. According to race organiser its growing in popularity.

"It has taken on a life of its own over the years and we now have about 15 couples taking part and it is a terrific race - and a tough old race too."

The race covers 250 meters. 15 couples took part this year, but there can only be one winner...until next year.
