Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson is confident Alexis Sanchez can replicate the impact made by Mesut Ozil following his move to the Emirates Stadium.

Ozil became the Gunners' record signing last summer after joining from Real Madrid and inspired a stunning start to the campaign which eventually ended with the club winning the FA Cup and qualifying for the Champions League.

Ahead of the new season, Sanchez will be hoping to replicate Ozil's start to life at Arsenal and Jenkinson is confident the Chile international can replicate his impressive form in English football.

"He is a fantastic player, everyone at the club is buzzing about it," he told Arsenal.com. "It is a similar feeling to when Mesut Ozil signed last year.

"He is world class and they're the sort of players you want to see at the club. The squad are buzzing as much as the fans, because if you're going to push on as a club and really compete for things, you need to sign top players.

"We have done that with him for sure - it is a fantastic addition. Everyone is over the moon that we have signed someone of that calibre.

"He's quick and direct, he can play up front and on the wing, and he is very dynamic. He will definitely fit the Arsenal style of play, and he is very similar to Theo in the sense that he is very quick and tricky.

"If you're world class then you fit into any side and he's definitely in that category."

Victory over Hull City in the FA Cup final ended the club's nine-year wait for a major trophy and relieved the pressure off Arsene Wenger's shoulders.

After staying in contention for the Premier League title until the final weeks of the campaign, Arsenal will be expected to improve once again in the new campaign and Jenkinson says the addition of Sanchez means there is no reason why the club can't fight on four fronts.

"Once you've got one, want to experience it again," he added. "Everyone was over the moon with winning the FA Cup - it was such a big thing for us all.

"Fingers crossed we can compete on all fronts this season. We have the squad and we are signing players like Sanchez, so I don't see why we can't."
