Outkast rapper Andre 3000 is reportedly set to play Jimi Hendrix in a new film about the legendary rocker's life.

According to the Irish Film and Television Network, the 36-year-old star, whose real name is Andre Benjamin, will take on the iconic role in the biopic All Is by my Side.

The film, which focuses on the late American guitarist's exploits during his time in England in 1966 and 1967, will be directed by John Ridley.

It will follow the creation of Hendrix's debut album, Are You Experienced, which thrust him into superstardom.

Filming is expected to start in June in Dublin and Wicklow, Ireland, and last for six weeks.

Andre 3000, the Hey Ya! hitmaker, previously hinted at his interest in the role by saying: "Everybody wants to do the movie, but there are so many things that go into a biopic.

"It's kinda like, until you are on set doing it you can't say what's going on."

This will not be the hip-hop star's first appearance on the big screen. The US rapper, who bears a resemblance to tHendrix, has starred in Four Brothers, Be Cool and Scary Movie 4.
