Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo became fast friends after they starred in the hit movie, Wicked. However, following their back-to-back movie promotions and interview appearances, fans started to become sceptical about their bond. After all, the A-listers' public affection towards each other seemed too exaggerated.

Since then, eagle-eyed fans have been speculating on the real status of Grande and Erivo's friendship. Some of them believe that the Wicked co-stars are just faking their closeness because they portray the role of best friends in the movie and have to act the same way in real life.

'Competitive Eating Disorder' Allegations

There are countless blind items circulating on social media, with users convinced that they reference Grande and Erivo. Most recently, there are allegations that Erivo caused Grande's eating disorder. The co-stars' alleged feud resulted in Grande losing a considerable amount of weight.

When Grande first stepped out in public whilst promoting Wicked, she shocked the public with her physical appearance. Compared to years earlier, the singer lost a lot of weight, and fans became concerned. Others believe that their once-healthy-looking idol is now suffering from an eating disorder.

TikTok user @celebritea.blinds alleged that Erivo is to blame for Grande's eating disorder. After all, the singer immediately gained back some of the weight she lost when the filming for Wicked wrapped up. The user also claimed that Grande's weight improved the minute she decided to end her friendship with Erivo.

Grande and Erivo allegedly had a so-called 'competitive eating disorder' whilst filming their movie because they both looked very unhealthy during that time.

'But Ariana Grande seems to be doing better now. And she did look healthier at the Golden Globes last week, which is great because we all wanna see her doing better,' the TikTok user said.

Fake Friendship Rumours

Other than the singer's health, there were also rumours that Grande and Erivo's friendship has always been fake. Worse, the A-listers allegedly hate each other. Even though Grande and Erivo share a matching tattoo, some believe that this is all for show and that there's no special meaning to it.

Wicked Co-Stars' PDAs Defended

Last year, Grazia journalist Charley Ross defended Grande and Erivo's public displays of affection after seeing them in person during an interview. The journalist defended the actors from the public who accused them of being fake and exaggerated.

'I would dispute that. I saw firsthand the closeness and connection between them – it's undeniable. And how could they not become so close, navigating the level of scrutiny and pressure that comes with being in one of the biggest Hollywood movie franchises of the decade?' he wrote.

Ross went on to say that as a tactile friend himself, he's all for public displays of affection. After all, it's a way of expressing love and affection to someone close to their heart.

'For me, showing someone some real intimacy through touch – if they want it – is an indicator of a deep friendship,' he wrote.

However, since the article was published two months ago, there's always still a possibility that Grande and Erivo's friendship already changed since then.
