Brampton Manor Academy in Newham, east London, has recorded its best-ever A-Level results, with more than 250 students achieving straight A or A grades. The performance surpasses some of the country's most prestigious independent schools, according to the school's own figures.

The achievement has sparked renewed interest in its sixth form, prompting questions about the entry requirements and application process for one of the UK's highest-performing state schools.

Record-Breaking Results

Brampton Manor has been known for its academic rigour for over a decade, but its 2025 results have further cemented its reputation. More than half of its sixth formers achieved A* or A across all subjects, totalling over 250 straight-A* students. Data from the academy indicates this exceeds the performance of some elite institutions such as Eton College, as reported by The Sun.

Since launching its sixth form in 2012, the school has maintained a strong progression rate to Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. By 2022, it had secured 85 Oxbridge offers, according to its published records.

Entry Requirements

Applicants to Brampton Manor's sixth form must meet a minimum average points score of 6.5 across all GCSEs and achieve at least grade 5 in both GCSE Maths and English Language. Some A-Level subjects require higher grades: for example, Biology, Chemistry and Physics each require grade 7 in the relevant GCSE or in Combined Science, often alongside another related subject.

For courses such as Computer Science and Further Mathematics, the grade requirement is 8 in the relevant GCSE, according to the school's admissions criteria.

Application Process

The application window opened on 10 January 2025 and closes on 14 February. Applicants are notified of their status by late March, with successful candidates invited to induction days in June. All applications must be submitted via the London Borough of Newham's Pupil Services, not directly to the academy.

Online discussion threads on The Student Room indicate that predicted grades can lead to a conditional offer, but final GCSE results determine whether a place is confirmed. Higher grades increase the likelihood of acceptance.

Why Brampton Manor Stands Out

The school combines high expectations with tailored support. Students receive specialist preparation for competitive universities, including coaching for admissions tests such as UCAT, BMAT, LNAT and STEP. There is also access to expert guidance, dedicated study resources and enrichment programmes covering debating, sport, arts and language clubs.

Its motto, 'success through effort and determination', reflects its ethos. Brampton Manor ranks as the top-performing post-16 provider in the region and the fourth best state school in the country based on average A-Level grades, according to the school's own data.

Across the UK, competition for places at top-performing sixth forms has intensified in recent years, with students often travelling across boroughs or counties for specialist provision. Brampton Manor's track record makes it a magnet for high-achieving GCSE pupils from both within and beyond London.

Outlook

Brampton Manor's 2025 results highlight its growing influence in the state education sector. Securing a place requires consistently strong GCSE performance, particularly in core subjects, as well as careful adherence to the application process.

With its combination of academic achievement, university preparation and extracurricular opportunities, the academy remains a prominent choice for ambitious students across London and beyond.
