'The Cars' lead singer Ric Ocasek, 75, found dead in his New York apartment

Ric Ocasek, the lead singer of the band "The Cars-a New Wave" died at the age of 75. He was found dead in his Manhattan home on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Police responded to the call "for an unconscious male". After his body was identified, he was announced dead at the scene.

His band "The Cars" became a huge success in the 1970s and 1980s. Some of the famous numbers of the band are: "Just What I Needed", "Shake It Up", "Good Times Roll" and "Drive". These started a new wave movement. Their amazing creation got them inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

The journey of "The Cars" began in the late 1960s' when the Ohio born Ocasek met Benjamin Orr. The two performed with various bands before they came up with their own band. They were joined by Elliot Easton on guitar, Greg Hawkes on keyboards and David Robinson on drums.

The band broke off in 1988 and then began Ocasek's solo career. He recorded seven solo albums. He also produced records for Bad Brains, Guided by Voices and Hole; The Blue Album and the Green Album by Weezer. They again got back together in 2011 without one of their band member Benjamin Orr, who died in 2000.

His fans and fellow musicians paid tribute to Ocasek on Twitter. "The Officer" star Rainn Wilson tweeted.

Last year, when Ocasek's band was inducted into the Hall of Fame, he told in an interview to the Rolling Stones magazine that it felt like "a good cap on the bottle" and a "lifetime". Reflecting on his life he added that he had three marriages, millions of fans, in fact a very "eventful life", reported CNN.

Ocasek was married thrice and is survived by six children, two from each marriage.
