Two days earlier, on 2 September, Trump told a White House Rose Garden dinner that he does not wear a wig.

He recalled a windy 2024 campaign rally in Ohio for Senator Bernie Moreno, saying the weather would have blown any wig off his head.

The Friday arrival photographs followed that statement by a short interval. On Saturday he played golf at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster with Fox News anchor Bret Baier, National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton and several others.

A red cap reading Trump Was Right About Everything covered most of his hair, leaving it unclear if the darker shade remained under the brim.

The White House did not respond to requests for comment reported by news organisations covering the change.

The episode is the latest in years of attention to Trump's hair, including a fuller blond appearance during an August speech in Las Vegas and earlier moments when wind lifted the style on the steps of the aircraft.

Comparisons online included 1970s television hosts, Robert Redford and other public figures, hardly a surprise given the long record of comment.
