Trump's Biographer Reveals He Has a Secret 'Patch Kit' for His Hair That Travels With Him Across the US

President Donald Trump reportedly has a travelling 'patch kit' containing small tufts of hair that can be used to maintain his distinctive hairstyle, according to longtime Trump biographer Michael Wolff.

Wolff said the kit has followed Trump around the US for years, with patches in different colours available to match the appearance of his hair.

Wolff made the claim on the Inside Trump's Head podcast, where he described the reported lengths taken to maintain the president's hairstyle.

He said people have carried the kit over the years and joked that they are positioned close to those responsible for carrying the nuclear codes.

'He has somebody who's following, and there have been a couple of people over, certainly over the political years, who've carried the patch kit,' Wolff said. 'They are next to the people who carry the nuclear codes.'

The White House did not respond to an email seeking comment about Wolff's claims.

Trump's Hair Patch Kit Has Reportedly Been Around for Years

According to Wolff, the kit contains small tufts of hair that are matched to whatever colour Trump's hair happens to be at the time. He said the patches are applied with 'some kind of paste' when needed.

'He has what are called patches, and they call it the patch kit,' Wolff said. 'And the patch kit is a little, you know, small tufts of hair that match whatever color his hair might be at the time.'

Wolff also said Trump handles much of his own hair maintenance, despite having the emergency kit available if something goes wrong.

'So the maintenance of this hair is a major enterprise and has been for many years,' Wolff said.

It is not clear who currently carries the reported kit. Wolff said there have been people responsible for it over the years, while the Daily Beast report noted that it was unclear whether Trump's 35-year-old executive and special assistant, Natalie Harp, has that role.

The claim about the kit is not independently confirmed by the White House. Wolff's account is also partly rooted in material he has previously published about Trump's hair.

The biographer recalled his description in his first Trump book, Fire and Fury, of Ivanka Trump's amused perspective on the work involved in creating her father's hairstyle during his first administration.

Wolff said Ivanka had described Trump having to tease, pull, and fluff his hair before creating what he called a 'confection' on top of his head.

Why There's Interest in Trump's Hair

Trump's focus on his hair has surfaced repeatedly throughout his political career, including during his second term.

In May 2025, Trump signed a presidential memorandum directing the administration to roll back federal water-pressure standards.

The White House document was titled 'Rescission of Useless Water Pressure Standards', and Trump cited his ability to take care of his 'beautiful hair' when discussing the issue.

The president has also continued to address speculation about his hairstyle.

Just this week, Trump again denied wearing a wig while recalling a 2024 campaign rally in Ohio. He described strong winds at the event and argued that a wig would not have remained on his head in those conditions.

'I went up to the speaker, and it was blowing so hard,' Trump said. 'You know, for years, I had to suffer with people saying, "He wears a wig." I don't wear a wig.'

He then said the weather was so severe that a wig would have been blown away.

Trump's hair has also appeared noticeably different in photographs taken over short periods, adding to the attention surrounding his appearance.

Wolff's latest account suggests that maintaining the hairstyle involves more preparation than may be apparent from Trump's public appearances.

Wolff has written four books about Trump, including Fire and Fury, Siege, Landslide and All or Nothing.

His latest comments add another detail to his long-running accounts of the president's personal habits, although the White House has not confirmed the existence or use of the reported 'patch kit'.

It also remains unclear whether the kit is carried by Harp or another member of Trump's staff, or how often the patches are actually used.
