A powerful earthquake, measuring 7.9 on the Richter Scale, has shaken Costa Rica, according to the US Geological Survey. It rattled buildings and cut power in some parts of the capital of San Jose. At the moment, there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

A tsunami warning has been issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning centre for Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Peru.

A watch has also been put in place in Chile. It's also added that it was unknown if a tsunami was generated, but the warning was based on the size of the earthquake.
