Gervonta Davis's boxing career has hit a standstill in mid-2025, following a delayed rematch, a July arrest in Miami and growing speculation over his retirement. The undefeated fighter, whose professional record stands at 30 wins, zero losses and one draw, has not confirmed an exit from the sport but has failed to defend his title since a controversial fight in March.

Undefeated Record and Retirement Claims Surface Again

Davis last fought in March 2025 against Lamont Roach Jr. in Brooklyn, where the bout ended in a majority draw. Despite the result, he remains officially undefeated, with 28 of his 30 wins coming by knockout.

According to Bloody Elbow, Davis is reportedly retired or mentally checked out, having declared himself 'fed up' with boxing. This comes amid speculation that he is stepping away without formally retiring.

In December 2024, Davis announced plans to retire by the end of 2025, calling the sport 'trash'. However, he later suggested a return, saying he wanted four more fights and was aiming for a Roach rematch.

Controversial Fight and the Delayed Rematch

The Davis–Roach bout on 1 March drew attention not only for the outcome but for a disputed ninth round. Davis voluntarily took a knee and walked to his corner mid-round, but officials did not call a knockdown. This moment proved critical in the scoring, with the majority draw result leaving fans and pundits divided.

A rematch was scheduled for 16 August in Las Vegas, but Davis failed to sign the contract. Promoters began seeking alternative dates in late August. As of late July, the bout remains unsigned, fuelling rumours about Davis's commitment and mental readiness.

Legal Trouble Halts Career Momentum

On 11 July, Davis was arrested in Miami Beach on charges of misdemeanour battery. The incident allegedly occurred on 16 June during a Father's Day visit to collect his children. According to a police report, Davis struck his ex-girlfriend in the head and face, causing minor injuries. Witnesses partially recorded the encounter.

Davis was held without bond and released days later. Media outlets noted that the boxer covered his face and declined to speak to reporters upon leaving jail. The arrest adds to Davis's prior legal history, including a 2021 hit-and-run crash in Baltimore and a 2020 battery case during a charity basketball game.

Public Backlash and Silence from Camp Davis

Since his arrest, Davis has remained silent on social media and made no formal statements about the rematch, retirement, or his future plans. His media absence sparked backlash, with fans questioning his mental readiness to return.

According to The Ring Magazine, former champion Tim Bradley believes Davis has 'checked out mentally' and is 'sick of the sport of boxing'.

Future Fights and Career Uncertainty

The delayed Roach rematch is not the only storyline in limbo. Davis had also been linked to a potential bout with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, but negotiations have stalled. As reported by Bad Left Hook, Bradley recently said he would pick Shakur Stevenson to beat Davis, adding that Davis seems 'one foot in, one foot out' of the sport.

Without a confirmed opponent or timeline for return, the future of Davis's boxing career remains uncertain.
