Overview

World No 1 Djokovic will be aiming for his second Madrid Open title. The Serb who was shocked by Jiri Vesely in the Monte Carlo Masters recently has bounced back in emphatic fashion. In what is his first appearance at Madrid since 2013, he delivered a brilliant performance to defeat Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-1 in the third round on Thursday. Djokovic thrashed Raonic in their most recent meeting at Indian Wells final in March earlier this year.

Raonic, World No 10, had a brilliant start to 2016. First he beat Roger Federer in the final at Brisbane to capture his eighth ATP World Tour title, and then he progressed to the semi-finals of the Australian Open. The 25-year-old picked up and adductor injury which saw him take a month of too recover and he still seems to be suffering from its aftereffects restricting his movements on the court. Raonic has improved his overall game especially his backhand.
