A young soldier at Prince Harry's army helicopter base in Suffolk has been the victim of an alleged gay sex attack, according to claims.

The young squaddie was attacked by a drunken gang of three servicemen at the Wattisham air station.

The three male soldiers reportedly pinned him down as he was sleeping in his room and subjected him to a sexual ordeal, it was claimed. After the assault, he ran screaming for help.

Officers from the Royal Military Police's Special Investigation Branch have launched an investigation.

"They found this lad asleep in his bed and pinned him down. There were claims that it was a sexual assault. The victim was horrified. He escaped and ran naked to the guard room screaming for help. I think the accused are denying what happened," the Daily Mail quoted a source as saying.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said action would be taken.

Prince Harry, who qualified as an Apache helicopter pilot, is stationed at the base.
